Career Quest (Things I wish I knew when I was 20)

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication hosted an alumni talk on 19th June, 2021 on the topic “Career Quest”. The speaker Ms. Madhavi AVSL, HR Business Partner and an Alumnus of the 2016 Batch was invited to guide and help the students to find the right career path. In the session, Ms. Madhavi shared her experiences of visualizing her ideal career and manifesting it into reality by landing a job that she was passionate about.

She spoke about how a degree does not define your career path and how marks are not a measure of success.She also emphasized that everyone has a unique journey and one should break stereotypes and opt for a career that excites them and drives them to excellence.

The speaker highlighted four skills apart from academics that play a major role in setting a potential candidate apart. These four skills were– essence of communication, logical thinking, time management and learning to handle failure. She suggested ways to inculcate and improve these skills to have a successful career.

The speaker also spoke about the possibilities, things to consider and the varying aspects of career change. She encouraged the students to acknowledge their strengths as well as weaknesses and work to enhance their skill set. She gave tips on how to market one’s portfolio and build connections using professional platforms like LinkedIn.

The enriching session concluded with a question-answer round where Ms. Madhavi addressed the questions and queries raised by the students.
